WE ARE JUST LONELY SKELETONS WITH GOLDEN TEETH

We artists often try to do something to leave a mark in the history. To make us kind of immortal. When I was a little boy my father told me mosquitos live only for one day. I remember thinking: well if they are on this planet for such a short time, why do they have to be born at all? Just to die a short moment later… This photo is from mine and my daughter’s first Ghosts Watching Over Me winter outdoor exhibition here in Finland. The name of the exhibition was We Are Just Lonely Skeletons with Golden Teeth. …There will be a sequence of exhibitions to follow with this photo series we have been working on since my daughter was four. These unmarked exhibitions last for only one day or less, and we won’t promote them in any way in advance. They just take place in random locations without notice.  Maybe you now ask what’s the purpose of such a short exhibition if no one else knows about them. But that’s your question, not ours. We already have the answer.

These photos are from the photo series called Ghosts Watching Over Me. We have been working on this series together with my daughter since she was four. I think these photos are dealing with the relationship between father and daughter and our fears and dreams.

What a beautiful night it was full of sunshine! Thanks to all of you at yesterday’s opening party.
I also want to thank the ones who made this exhibition possible and the ones who have trusted and suported my artistic work during all these years. Huge thank you goes to Suomen kulttuurirahasto, Svenska Kulturfonden, Taiteen edistämiskeskus, Patricia Seppälän Säätiö, JOKES, and Puite.

PRACTICE OF DOING NOTHING

Sometimes you have the chance to work with things you are so proud of, it feels like you have swallowed the sun. And now it’s all waiting there to be released and it feels like there is so much light inside of you, that if some one would cut you in half, you would shine.

This is it. This is going to be a BIG one. For the first time in my life I’m working as choreographer together with Karoliina Kauhanen. Together we are walking from the darkness towards the light. Together we are creating a ceremony. Together we are making the Practice of Doing Nothing.

Closing time my friends! My first gallery exhibition with Last Machos is now over. Big and warm thank you to all the visitors and people who have helped me with this exhibition including friends, family members, and all my assistants – everyone who have helped me during the years. I would also like to thank Svenska Kulturfonden, Taike, Patricia Seppälän Säätiö, Jokes and Suomen Kulttuurirahasto who have funded my working during these years with Finnish Teens and Last Machos. Hello there! I will be working at an art recidency here in Northern Finland in July. The first part I will work here alone. The last week I will be working together with my daughter on this photo series we are making together. It’s called Ghosts Watching Over Me.

I started to take these photos when my daughter was only four. I think this series is dealing with the relationship between father and daughter and their fears. When my daughter was younger she was afraid of totally other things than today when she is already eight years old.

We are really proud of this photo finished today. We hope it is important for you as well. Take care, you are important!
