We did a book cover for Oneiron together with graphic designer Jussi Karjalainen and dancer Karoliina Kauhanen. I’m happy that this brilliant book (Finlandia prize winner etc.) has been published with our cover also e.g. in Italy, Sweden, Bulgaria, Hungary and Romania. This one is from Norway …og den er kjempe flott. Hilser alle mine norske venner: gå ikke glipp av denne bok av Forlaget Oktober. (Easter photo by Forlaget Oktober)
We artists often try to do something to leave a mark in the history. To make us kind of immortal. When I was a little boy my father told me mosquitos live only for one day. I remember thinking: well if they are on this planet for such a short time, why do they have to be born at all? Just to die a short moment later… This photo is from mine and my daughter’s first Ghosts Watching Over Me winter outdoor exhibition here in Finland. The name of the exhibition was We Are Just Lonely Skeletons with Golden Teeth. …There will be a sequence of exhibitions to follow with this photo series we have been working on since my daughter was four. These unmarked exhibitions last for only one day or less, and we won’t promote them in any way in advance. They just take place in random locations without notice. Maybe you now ask what’s the purpose of such a short exhibition if no one else knows about them. But that’s your question, not ours. We already have the answer.
“OMG, this goes to eleven!” Feeling happy and honored to be the 11th photographer in this great project presenting 100 most interesting Finnish photographers in every fields of photography, including also art and documentary. Thank you. ❤️🙏
MORE PHOTOS & INFORMATION:
😊 Mukana menossa mm. Elina Brotherus, Arno Rafael Minkkinen, Jari Silomäki, Susanna Majuri, Stefan Bremer, Sanna Kannisto, Marja Pirilä, Heli Rekula, Tiina Itkonen, Pentti Sammallahti ja monia monia muita kiinnostavia nimiä joten kannattaa tsekata tuo yläpuolella oleva linkki.
What a night, what an opening!
A big thank you to Alla & Julia and rest of the crew organizing this fantastic exhibition named Pohjoinen kohtaaminen. A lot of great photographers presented, so if you are in Oulu, Finland, during 23.9-12.11.2017 make sure you visit Northern Photographic Centre.
These photos are from the photo series called Ghosts Watching Over Me. We have been working on this series together with my daughter since she was four. I think these photos are dealing with the relationship between father and daughter and our fears and dreams.
Closing time my friends! My first gallery exhibition with Last Machos is now over. Big and warm thank you to all the visitors and people who have helped me with this exhibition including friends, family members, and all my assistants – everyone who have helped me during the years. I would also like to thank Svenska Kulturfonden, Taike, Patricia Seppälän Säätiö, Jokes and Suomen Kulttuurirahasto who have funded my working during these years with Finnish Teens and Last Machos. It’s amazing to have all of you out there pushing me forward. So honestly: Thank you!
I have been extremely happy that so many of you have seen my exhibition and many of you have even made a day trip from Helsinki to Porvoo to see my exhibition.
Today I even got a message from one of the visitors that she and her father had visited the exhibition and both of them were so touched that they couldn’t leave the exhibition with dry eyes. Another visitor told me the he had laughed hysterically there together with his dad and daughter.
…What more can I ask for?!? Strong emotional reactions with full scale. Thank you so much for all this wonderful feedback ?
Next week is the last week of my Last Machos exhibition; it will be there only until November 27th. Gallery will be open from Tuesday to Sunday. So be sure not to miss it!
Another great review about my Last Machos exhibition.
Oh dear, sano John Deere. It’s been hectic up here. First of all: yesterday’s opening for Endless Summer was a blast! For me it felt like half of the village was there. I’m super happy with the result and pretty damn proud of the exhibition. I’ll write you more about that later.
Yesteday, before my own exhibition opening I had also a great workshop for 15 photographers from all over Finland and today I’m working as judge for Valto Pernu Photo Maraton. On their Facebook page you can find my latest interview made by YLE Oulu.
So yes, it has been an insanely busy week but LIFE IS GOOD!
