HI, HEJ & MOI

Aki-Pekka Sinikoski, Archipelago, Åland

Hi friends! 2015 is here and I have started it as I finished the last year –with good work flow and plenty of super interesting projects. I’m pretty damn sure that 2015 will be a REALLY GOOD ONE. Last week I spent on the outer archipelago of Åland taking photos for my forthcoming series called An Island. More teasers from that one soon.

I made the album art works for the new the Scenes album called Beige. My starting point for Beige’s art work with the concept of digital errors was a quote by David Foster Wallace: ”Pay close attention to the most tedious thing you can find (tax returns, televised golf) and. In waves. A boredom like you’ve never known will wash over you and just about kill you. Ride these out. And it’s like stepping from black and white into color.”

CORAZON OUT NOW!

MJ by Aki-Pekka Sinikoski

My First Band: Corazon is out NOW. Play it loud! Play it proud!

Corazon is totally pop but still weard enough that it has found its route straight to my heart. I’m so proud to say that I have taken photos for this wonderful album. I honestly think this is The Finnish Record of the Year.

Cheers, Aki

Who am I? The photograph suggests me an identity – permanent and almost everlasting. But I’m more than that.

I’m inhabited by several identities that switch around, change, and refuse to take a permanent form. I’m different at every moment. The light knows none of us. It can’t tell me who I am. The light hits the surface and exposes only what is visible.

As a photographer I am interested in the surface, identity and change. I have been shooting a series of documentary images of a Finnish young man who has dressed as Michael Jackson for the last four years. Every day. I believe that my series deals with finding one’s own identity and the courage to follow one’s own path. At the same time the images pose the question of how much can we know about a person based only on their outward appearance.

Michael-Jan is not Michael Jackson. The outward identity that seems familiar to everybody sets him apart from the crowd, but at the same time it hides the person inside.

The boundaries of reality are blurred in the grocery store when a Finnish housewife starts to blame Michael-Jan for things related to the life of the pop icon, deceased in 2009. The lady looks at Michael but does not see him. She sees only the reflecting surface which resembles someone else. All of a sudden Michael-Jan is invisible.

Who do people see when they look at me? Who do they see in my images?

DON’T BREAK MY CORAZONE

My First Band

My First Band

A friend of mine asked me if I have heard any good Finnish bands lately. I told her that there is one that I’m really excited about: My First Band. And now you heard that as well.

My First Band just got a record deal with Sony Music Finland and Sony Music Germany. They will be the opening band on the forthcoming Sunrise Avenue concerts in Europe – that will gather more than 100 000 people in a couple of weeks. If I would need to place a bet, my prediction is that they are the next BIG BAND from Finland.

The first single Don’t Break My Corazon hints that the band is “duran duranish new age modern talking” kind of pop but that’s not the whole picture. When you hear the whole forthcoming Corazon album you’ll find a superb combination of super artsy stuff wrapped in big, bold, and shameless pop tunes. – Briliant stuff!
