WÖYH!: KAMPPAILU MERELLÄ

THIS IS IT! One of the most lunatic productions I have ever done! I’m so so so proud of this video. I hope you love it as much as I do!

XXX, Peki Sinikoski

PS. So much good stuff on its way right now. Even more new and brilliant stuff with WÖYH! is going to be released soon when Dwzyrek will be out on April 17th as a gigantic special edition book/album full of my photos. So beware as this epic saga continues in the album art work as well.

BREAKING NEWS FROM PLANET WÖYH!

Aki-Pekka Sinikoski, WÖYH!, Dwzyrek

Aki-Pekka Sinikoski, WÖYH!, Dwzyrek, working in Iceland

Last week was ”something else” for me and and my Superkasi fellow Jussi Karjalainen. We had some epic moments while working in Iceland for WÖYH!’s forthcoming album. During last week I shot all the album art works, promo photos and even the music video for them. –O’boy, the Icelandic weather was quite something: rain, heavy snowstorms, and the hardest wind I have ever experienced. And YES, we still managed to shoot in all of those weather conditions.

I would definitely like to thank WÖYH!’s band members Jussi Hyyrynen (YUP) and Antti ”Hyrde” Hyyrynen (Stam1na) for their super high work ethic. They didn’t complain even when we were shooting on the shore line when it was raining iced water while the wind was blowing more than 22 meter/second and the windflaws reached 37 meter/second. In that weather there was such strong emotions in the air that probably even Joukko Turkka would have been proud of us.

We can start with the cover photos I took for the WÖYH!’s next album (Dwzyrek) and to their first single (Kamppailu merellä). The ”Hemingwayish” making of photo is taken by Jussi. More stuff coming soon, so stay tuned.

I wish you a lot of sunshine, a mug full of good coffee and a super good day!

ALBUM ART WORKS AND PROMO PHOTOS FOR THE SCENES: BEIGE

I made the album art works for the new the Scenes album called Beige. My starting point for Beige’s art work with the concept of digital errors was a quote by David Foster Wallace: ”Pay close attention to the most tedious thing you can find (tax returns, televised golf) and. In waves. A boredom like you’ve never known will wash over you and just about kill you. Ride these out. And it’s like stepping from black and white into color.”

CORAZON OUT NOW!

MJ by Aki-Pekka Sinikoski

My First Band: Corazon is out NOW. Play it loud! Play it proud!

Corazon is totally pop but still weard enough that it has found its route straight to my heart. I’m so proud to say that I have taken photos for this wonderful album. I honestly think this is The Finnish Record of the Year.

Cheers, Aki

MJ – ARTIST STATEMENT

MJ by Aki-Pekka Sinikoski

MJ by Aki-Pekka Sinikoski

Who am I? The photograph suggests me an identity – permanent and almost everlasting. But I’m more than that.

I’m inhabited by several identities that switch around, change, and refuse to take a permanent form. I’m different at every moment. The light knows none of us. It can’t tell me who I am. The light hits the surface and exposes only what is visible.

As a photographer I am interested in the surface, identity and change. I have been shooting a series of documentary images of a Finnish young man who has dressed as Michael Jackson for the last four years. Every day. I believe that my series deals with finding one’s own identity and the courage to follow one’s own path. At the same time the images pose the question of how much can we know about a person based only on their outward appearance.

Michael-Jan is not Michael Jackson. The outward identity that seems familiar to everybody sets him apart from the crowd, but at the same time it hides the person inside.

The boundaries of reality are blurred in the grocery store when a Finnish housewife starts to blame Michael-Jan for things related to the life of the pop icon, deceased in 2009. The lady looks at Michael but does not see him. She sees only the reflecting surface which resembles someone else. All of a sudden Michael-Jan is invisible.

Who do people see when they look at me? Who do they see in my images?
