New Ghosts is now Blue Ghosts. During these extra ordinary times it’s important to protect all of us. That is why our exhibition in Jyväskylä is closed and wrapped in blue at the moment. If the situations gets better in a month, we will reopen the exhibition between April 14 and April 26.
If not, we hope to see you in Helsinki at Hippolyte Gallery in October or in the Northern Photographic Centre in Oulu at the end of the year.
Thank you for the wonderful exhibition opening in Gallery Ratamo. The atmosphere was warm and beautiful and we really could feel connected to you. Thank you for all your kind words and thank you for sharing your stories and thoughts. After the opening, it was snowing and we were so happy, grateful and full of life.
Our warm greetings go also to läänintaiteilija Marko Hämäläinen who interviewed us. –You have one of the biggest hearts in the whole wide world!
For those of you who haven’t seen the New Ghosts exhibition yet, you have the chance to see it at Gallery Ratamo in Jyväskylä until 29 March.
After Jyväskylä the following New Ghosts exhibitions in Finland will take place at
–Gallery Hippolyte in Helsinki (October 2020) –Northern Photographic Centre in Oulu (November 2020)
More New Ghosts exhibitions outside of Finland will be published soon. See you on the road.
The first New Ghosts exhibition in 2020 will take place 5.–29.3. at the beautiful Gallery Ratamo in Jyväskylä.
You are welcome to the opening 4 March at 5 pm. There will be a New Ghosts Artist Talk hosted by regional artist (läänintaiteilija) Marko Hämäläinen and we’ll stay in the gallery together with Astrid even after the official program, so I’m sure you’ll have a chance to chat with us if you feel like that. We have worked with these images since 2011 and YES, we are super proud of this exhibition, so it’ll be a pleasure to share it with you.
I will also have a photo workshop in Jyväskylä on 29 March so even if we don’t know too many people in Jyväskylä region – yet! – we hope that will change pretty soon.
My body is already in Finland but my mind is still in Moscow, Russia. Here are some photos from New Ghosts exhibition (by me and my daughter Astrid) running at the fantastic The Lumiere Brothers Center photo gallery until December 15th.
So if you are in Moscow do not miss this one 😊
The exhibition at The Lumiere Brothers Center for Photography is made in collaboration with Finnish Embassy in Moscow and the exhibition is curated by Tuula Alajoki.
And for all our New Ghosts fans out there: Do not worry. We are going to have at least three big gallery and museum exhibitions next year in Finland as well so you will finally see our works in Finland, too.
New Ghosts at the Head On Photo Festival in Sydney.
@headonphotofest is a massive international art event spread all over the city. Here are some photos from our installation in the Royal Botanic Garden, located close to the iconic Sydney Opera House.
Thank you Moshe Rosenzveig, Anita Schwartz, and Stephen Godfrey. You have done such an amazing job building this fantastic photo festival. We are so happy and honored to be part of it ❤️
I would also like to thank all the other artists we met during our trip to Australia. We are especially grateful for all the people who stopped us on the street just to talk with us and those who have sent us messages afterwards. It has ment so much to us. It’s truely amazing to travel 25 hours to the other side of the world and find people who know what we are doing and who are touched by our photographs and are passionated about them. We feel happy and grateful to be part of your lives ❤️⭐️🙏
Yours, Aki & Astrid

Hello fellows! I just wanted to drop you photos from yesterday’s short term exhibition called Tired Bird in the Waiting Room.
We artists often try to do something that leaves a mark in the history. To make us kind of immortal. When I was little my father told me mosquitos are alive only for one day. It felt like well if they live on this planet for such a short time, why do they have to be born at all? Just to die a short moment afterwards… We just wanted you to know that there will be a sequence of exhibitions to follow with this photo series we have been working on since my daughter was four years old. These exhibitions will last for only one day or less, and we will not promote them in any way in advance. They just happen in random places without notice. Maybe you now ask what’s the purpose of such a short exhibition if no one else knows about it. But that’s your question, not ours. We already have the answer.

I remember thinking: well if they are on this planet for such a short time, why do they have to be born at all? The name of the exhibition was We Are Just Lonely Skeletons with Golden Teeth. …There will be a sequence of exhibitions to follow with this photo series we have been working on since my daughter was four. What a night, what an opening!
A big thank you to Alla & Julia and rest of the crew organizing this fantastic exhibition named Pohjoinen kohtaaminen. A lot of great photographers presented, so if you are in Oulu, Finland, during 23.9-12.11.2017 make sure you visit Northern Photographic Centre.
These photos are from the photo series called Ghosts Watching Over Me. We have been working on this series together with my daughter since she was four. I think these photos are dealing with the relationship between father and daughter and our fears and dreams.
Midsummer couldn’t stop us to arrange two hidden exhibitions, Sun is Dead I & II. But it didn’t stop this nice dog either who visited both of them. Thanks to her and other creatures for meeting us and our photos. Our caravan will now continue to the mountains where we will have more Ghosts Watching Over Me exhibitions.
